The king of Italian ice-cream comes from San Gimignano
The day before yesterday, San Gimignano Sergio Dondoli was crowned ice-cream maker of Italy. He beat the eighty participants who contended for the "Gelatissimo d'Italia" (great ice-cream of Italy) award in Carrara.
After having come close to success for five consecutive years, Dondoli has brought home the victor's palm. He carried off the victory with a strawberry ice-cream. "The secret? Having used excelled Marsala strawberries and then the usual ingredients", says Dondoli, as renowned in San Gimignano as his ice-cream shop in Piazza della Cisterna.
